WELCOME – I am running for re-election to the EBMUD Ward 7 chair. I am not on the ballot for any other position. I believe in the hard work that is done to provide reliable, quality water to the ratepayers. My commitment is to continue to be the Director who has done that and has been more than just what you have elected – but for service to the community as well.

Accomplishments

Frank Mellon has been part of this community for many years, working tirelessly to make it a better place.


  

· When first elected – broke the log jam on the American River water supply conflict- Result - Joint FREWA Project is completed in 2009 and the Drought Supply was used in this last drought 

· As Board President - settled last lawsuit over Drought Supply to assure the drought supply project was successfully completed for use today and, guided EBMUD through recent drought

· Additional water supply from other water agencies secured

· EBMUD water demand has dropped from 192 million gallons of water per day(mgd) to 152 mgd while covering a growing East Bay population through innovative conservation and recycling programs

· Bayside Groundwater Reserve Project is completed 2010 resulting in one million additional gallons of water per day available for drought relief

· Nationally recognized recycled water projects completed: 

1. Chevron – daily saving up to 5+ million gallons of drinking water 

2. C&H –  daily saving up to 3 million gallons of drinking water

3.  Dublin San Ramon Services District / East Bay Municipal Utility District (DERWA) – Almost 10 million gallons of recycled water per day are used for irrigation purposes for school grounds, sports fields, and industrial areas

4. East Shore Project on line to use water for landscape irrigation purposes

5. Shorenstein Projects (Oakland) on line – for high-rise office cooling towers and toilets

6. EBMUD Administration building now uses recycled water for its toilet systems

· Wastewater treatment plant is 100% energy self-sufficient and sells energy to the Port of Oakland

· Watershed Master Plan completed – areas are preserved to protect water supply and provide recreation for generations to come

· Water Supply Master Plan in place –firm plans are in place for future supply for Bay Area through 2040 – agreement reached for new storage at Los Vaqueros

· Supported pilot project for water desalination plant

· Agreements put in place to provide for more water for the fisheries and the environment

· Agreements over the Oakland Army Base put in place to provide room for wastewater treatment plant building upgrades and lay foundation for bio-diesel plant

·· EBMUD Water Rates no longer the most expensive in the Bay Area and are in the bottom third of Bay Area water agencies

· EBMUD vehicle fleet is made up of Green Vehicles

· WaterSmart Certification water conservation program is implemented

· Met annually with local service groups (Rotary, Lions Club, Moose, SIRS, Chamber of Commerce, etc.) as well as held annual EBMUD updates with local officials

· Make presentations to local governing agencies about EBMUD activities

· Continued to support programs and groups that make our community a better place to live (Castro Valley Sports Foundation, Castro Valley Educational Foundation, Rotary, Soroptimist, Local Chambers of Commerce) 

· Hayward Area Recreation District will create new park from surplus EBMUD property

· Saved Redwood Canyon Golf Course and facilities from closure
